PICO –PICO ISLAND

The Pico Island Wine Cooperative was founded in 1949 and vineyards are classified as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.  It is a union of 250 farmers who deliver their best grapes every year to produce the most varied wines.

In the Cooperative, the grapes are hand-picked from the rocky vineyards with fragile basalt stone walls to protect vineyard from the adverse weather conditions on the Island.

The largest and oldest wine producer in the Azores continues to respect and preserve the way their ancestors made wines. It is a culture of respect of history and traditions, combined with the knowledge, that makes Pico wines the best wines of the Azores.

The wine maker Bernardo Cabral, a two time Wine Maker of the year, is a  Portuguese iconic winemaker who has mastered the art of making wines with strong terroir character and Atlantic influence. Considerable effort is made to use the influence of the incredible volcanic Atlantic terroir to produce memorable bottles of  Pico wines.
